Would you be untruthful to someone if you thought you wanted to spare them from something, or avoid getting their feelings hurt or whatever it may be…. then you have just told a white lie
.
But what exactly is a white lie?
We checked authoritative sources and this is what we found.
A white lie would cause no discord if it were uncovered and offers some benefit to the liar or the hearer, or both. As a concept, it is largely defined by local custom and cannot be clearly separated from regular lies with any authority. As such the term may have differing meanings in different cultures. Lies which are harmless but told for no reason are generally not called white lies.
A euphemism for such lies as one finds it convenient to tell, and excuses himself for telling.

An often trivial, diplomatic or well-intentioned untruth.
Regardless of what they might be saying, here are my two cents about white lies.
First off, its just the same animal by a different name, a lie is still a lie, an untruth regardless of purpose and intention. A definition above mentions it as being convenient to tell and is excusable, how can something wrong like lying be right? And lastly, to tell a trivial lie for the purpose of diplomacy borders on hypocrisy, another behavior that so annoys me.
Ok, so maybe the end DOES justify the means in this regard, but I believe it to be totally unacceptable when people you know well enough, and you think you are good friends with, lie to you; regardless of how well intentioned the white lie is.
How can you ever trust them? Aaaah people…
Time to Call It A Day.
