Last year, there was so much talk about Neal Schon’s interest in a talented Filipino singer, and the possibility of the singer, Arnel Pineda, fronting for one of the biggest bands of all time, Journey.
Comments and questions flooded forums, bulletins blogs; many not too friendly, a bunch critical, but there were many others that were very supportive and happy about, and they were not simply Arnel Pineda’s compatriots.
As a musician myself, it is a dream to one day make it big, and making it big does not necessarily mean fame or fortune, for some it is all about getting their music out; but knowing how the music business is run, the fame and fortune come hand in hand.
But going back to Arnel Pineda, many people ask if he had the talent, the skill… “could he pull it off?” Well, I like many others who have grown up to Journey’s music are rooting for the guy, and we will eventually find out. From what we read on the news, they are busy recording a new album that is set for release in July 2008, a date to coincide with an anticipated tour.
So if I were to be asked if he has got it? The skill, the talent… I’d say absolutely. But will he make it with Journey? I hope so, but only time will tell, as there are other factors that come into play, but with the kind of difficulties Arnel has overcome in life, this new challenge may be a walk in the park.
In December, Journey released an official statement, and introduced the new lead vocalist for Journey, Arnel Pineda; and fans who are against it will have to give him a chance, for if Neal and the guys thought that Arnel is good enough, then he really must be and deserves a chance.
We wish Arnel the best of luck on his exciting new journey.

Why not? It is hard to fill anyones shoes, but hey, if Journey needs a lead singer, and they do, then sure sounds good to me. I love Journey’s music, have always been a big fan. Maybe this guy could use some radio time on my show? Hit me up sometime, I’d love to talk to him. (He does speak English, correct?)
