And so the year nearly comes to an end and you find yourself in the same spot you did a year back, and the year before; you with a list of New Year’s Resolutions that don’t go anywhere beyond simply being a list. Keep reading to learn How To Keep New Year’s Resolutions.
So what’s it going to be… what going to be on the list this year? What are your goals?
Easy questions to ask, difficult to answer, and equally difficult to fulfill. Maybe this year you want to lose some weight, quit a nasty habit, or get a new hobby. Whatever your New Year’s resolution is, even if really simple, these will be hard for you to accomplish if you don’t learn how to set realistic goals and start your game plan.
The thing about New Year’s resolutions is, they’re often too complicated or maybe even unrealistic. If you have too long a list, you might have a difficult time staying focused, and giving each goal the right amount of energy to make it work. Setting goals is indeed necessary for one to improve, however setting unrealistic goals or too many goals will end in failure. Choose one to three goals and work single-mindedly toward it, and give it a schedule; when you hope to start on it and when you hope to accomplish or finish.
When writing a New Year’s resolution, keep your goal realistic and specific. Instead of saying, “I want to lose some weight this year,” say “I want to lose 20 pounds this year.” You also need to keep goals realistic or you will never be able to reach them and will only become discouraged. If doubling your business’ profit margin is unrealistic, why not set a goal of increasing profits by 20 percent?
Now that you’ve got your goal firmly in mind you need to learn how to work toward it. Since large goals can be overwhelming and hard to focus on, divide your goal into smaller goals. For example: If your goal is to lose a certain amount of pounds, divide that amount by 12 to create smaller, monthly goals. Work hard each month toward each short-term goal. Monitor your progress weekly to ensure that you stay on the right track. Get motivation through a support group, a friend, or weight-loss publications. Set up a reward system for each milestone that you complete, and before you know it, the year will be over and you will have realized your goal.
